Monthend
Now I'm fairly sure nobody reads this thing anymore, so I can pretty much say anything I want. Cool.
Anyway, it's time for the first "month end summary" I've done in probably years. Played SNGs half-assedly for the first week and a half or so of August, and after 60 or so my my ROI was just north of 30% and a total profit was about $170. (Woohah!)
Past two and a half weeks ish, I've been hitting back the FL grind, and in my characteristic strange/demented way, loving every second of it.
At month's end, we're looking at ~11k hands of 1/2 6max. +359.75
That's a 1.64bb/100, over the meaningless sample. ...Woot? Mostly 3 and 4 tabling (added the 4th regularly after a while, but sometimes scaled back to play tournies or whatnot. Fun excessive stupid pointless stat: over the past month slumming it up down here where I feel like I have no money whatsoever, I still had an hourly more than half-again greater than I was making back at the Super 8 Motel circa 2003, which is still my last 'job.' Grrrravy.
More inane banter and mediocre reading material to follow.
Update: I just got some borderline spam from FT, linking to an article by Paul Wasicka about bankroll management/building, and it naturally mentioned Jesus' 0 to $10k challenge. After reading the article, and thinking back to how I built my bankroll the first time around, I think I might be better served to look at this as a more focused 'rebuilding' thing as opposed to just farting around, if only because it might be fun and it might force me to blog more often and more interestingly, hence, people might read again!
Perhaps part of it really is a bit of the 'proving myself' thing too. Any moran (sic) can tell that with a wide enough variety of stakes and enough skill, building a bankroll from $0 is possible. Not only that, I did it myself, parlaying no initial investment at all into a bill-paying ultra-part time lazy gig for a few years. Of course, there was some good fortune that went into it: I generally ran pretty good on my "way up" with a few notable exceptions. (I got crooshed my first efforts on Party nl25 if I recall correctly, and even when I had the bankroll the old Party nl100 game knocked me on my ass every time I tried to step up to it for a while, which was quite annoying.) The luckiness also comes into play in tournament scores: I had relatively few, and no particularly large ones over the years, but a nicely timed score last summer for a couple grand helped me dive into the SNG world to a decent amount of success.
That paragraph went nowhere. Anyway, despite all the past success, (and despite the fact that I'm at least as, if not more confident, than I ever was in the past) there's still a bit of forced crow-eating that comes from not having a lot of cash and playing back down here again. I want my mobneyz and fame back.
More importantly, I got to bypass the tiny stakes part of this rebuilding process this time. I had probably $200 throughout all sorts of sites, and on a whim good ol Stupidfrey convinced me to buy into a sat, which I won, and though I fell short of the six figure payday of winning the ME, the $~1600 (which got annihilated in a sweet run at the 55 turbos on FT) ended up providing the fodder that I started playing with this last time.
While this isn't as cool as the old "Zero to Hero" challenge, (Five-Hundo to Not-Busto? Nah, it doesn't work) I think it might still make for some goot blogging. Plus, seriously, even at $1/$2 my hourly is probably higher than any joe-job I'd stumble onto with my general lack of marketable skills (sadly, boyish-good-looks and charm only get you so far.) So perhaps, just perhaps, I'm going to be 'out of retirement' within about a year of quitting in the first place. FOOLED YOU! I guess I just really needed the time off to do absolutely nothing, play video games, and be as emo as I've ever been in my life.
The games are definitely harder than they used to be, but I'm pretty used to tough games (I still have nightmares about the $5/$10 and $10/$20 shorthanded games on AP that were my 'bread and butter' for so long, yeesh) and all signs point to me not being the worst poker player in the world. In fact, I'm obviously much much better now than I was when I was first attacking games like the party $1/$2, so I might be about as well off, if not better, than I was the first time around. Assuming I keep on moving up though, it will be quite interesting to see how the mid limit games are these days. It might even be prudent to start branching out more at that point, I'm thinking probably toward the SNG realm... but we'll see. No specific plans at this point, just taking it as it comes.
Jesus, why do I type so much? Seriously. It's disgusting. Nobody reads the blog anyway, and with posts like this, nobody will start. But too bad. I need to simplify, maybe make a little sig that has current bankroll status, and how far I am to the 'goal.' That means I need a goal, too. Hmmm.
I'll get crackin' on that. The more important one though:
